Kids need a place to play! Capital Campaign The Chubbuck Pocatello Hockey Association (CPHA) was formed in 1997 to provide recreational roller hockey opportunities for Southeast Idaho Youth. The league incorporated in 2002 and is a registered 501 (c)(3) corporation with the IRS. The league currently plays on Chubbuck's outstanding outdoor inline hockey rink in Capell Park. The rink's construction was a cooperative effort between the City of Chubbuck, the CPHA Board, Pape Custom Concrete, Idaho Power, and a variety of other community sponsors. But, this outdoor rink is only the first step in our larger goal of creating a permanent indoor hockey/recreation facility in Chubbuck that will be open to a variety of sports and activities, from soccer and lacrosse to square dances and RV shows. To this end, the Chubbuck Pocatello Hockey Association has launched a the million dollar "Kids need a place to play!" Capital Campaign to raise money for a permenant indoor inline hockey/recreation facility in Chubbuck, ID. Read more about our exciting plans by clicking on the "Capital Campaign" icon, above. CPHA Receives Strong Support From United Way In early March, CPHA made its annual pitch for funds to United Way. Ralph Bennet, CPHA's President, and Jim DiSanza, the organization's Secretary, appeared before the United Way board to ask for funds for additional equipment needed to expand its program for at-risk and underprivileged kids. In April, United Way granted a significant portion of that request when it agreed to commit $4,000 to CPHA. That money will be distributed to the organizaiton on a monthly basis and has already allowed for the purchase of additional skates and helmets. The CPHA is excited about its continuing relationship with United Way and will work to expand its outreach program throughout the year. Denny Gasper, one of the Association's strongest supporters, took time last fall to get his level 1 coaching certification from USA Hockey. Gasper traveled to Idaho Falls for a one day clinic that included both off-ice and on-ice training. "Denny is always at the rink--always working to support hockey in Pocatello," says CPHA secretary, Jim DiSanza. "He coaches, volunteers his time in rink maintenance, and recruits more new kids to the program than anyone else in the Association. We're thrilled to have him supporting our programs." Rink Clean-Up and Maintenance Day On Saturday April 12, several CPHA members participated in an extensive maintenance and clean-up day at the outdoor rink in Capell Park.
